“Maybe I Can Be a Second Wife”: Tiwa Savage Gets Candid About Love, Marriage & Modern Realities
Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage is known for her powerhouse vocals and bold style — but in a recent podcast appearance, it was her vulnerability that struck a chord with fans.
Speaking on the American podcast Air Service, the Nigerian superstar opened up about her current outlook on love, relationships, and the changing dynamics of dating as a successful woman in her 40s. And in true Tiwa fashion, she didn’t hold back.
With a mix of humour and honesty, the singer admitted that most of her potential suitors these days are either already married or significantly older.
“If I meet somebody who can really marry me, they are either in their 50s or already married,” she said. “So, I don’t know. Maybe I can be a second wife. I think so. I could be a second wife.”
The Grammy-nominated artist — and mother of one — went on to explain that if she ever chose to be a second wife, she’d do so with grace and respect, promising zero drama and a lot of maturity.
“I think I can go along with the first wife and she’s going to love me,” she continued. “I’m not going to be troublesome. I’m going to be going on tours, I’m not really going to stress you. I’m very respectful, I know that you are the first wife and would accord you that respect.”
Her comments, while lighthearted, have reignited conversations around love, polygamy, and the complex pressures faced by women — particularly public figures — when it comes to finding partnership in today’s world.
Tiwa was previously married to music executive Tunji Balogun (aka TeeBillz) from 2013 to 2018. Their union, which produced a son, ended amid public allegations of infidelity from both sides. Since then, she’s remained relatively private about her romantic life — until now.
For fans, Tiwa’s honesty is a refreshing reminder that fame doesn’t exempt anyone from the challenges of love, loneliness, or societal expectations. In fact, it can complicate them.
Whether joking or speaking her truth, Savage has once again proven that she’s unafraid to challenge convention — even when it comes to matters of the heart.
