“Yes, the governor has resigned from the PDP,” Alabrah says
Duoye’s spokesperson Mr. Daniel Alabrah confirmed this development to PREMIUM TIMES
On Wednesday, October 15, 2025 that the governor has indeed left the PDP, though he has not yet declared affiliation with any other political party
It was reported that Diri made this announcement during a meeting with his cabinet and political associates at the Government house in Yenegoa.
As of now, no official statement has been made by the People’s Democratic party regarding the governor’s resignation.
VANGUARD’s correspondent in Bayelsa also reports that the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abraham Ngobere, along with 18 PDP lawmakers, also tendered their resignation from the opposition party.
His resignation from the PDP is coming few hours after Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu state abandoned PDP for APC.
If Governor Diri’s departure is confirmed, it would reduce the number of PDP’s sitting governors to eight.
This would mark another significant defection within Nigeria’s political landscape,
particularly in the South-South region where the party has traditionally enjoyed support.
Currently, Rivers, Adamawa, Bauchi, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba and Zamfara are the remaining states which have their sitting governors as PDP members.
