Nigeria’s football queens Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo have been nominated for the 2025 (CAF) Women’s Player of the Year Award, capping off a remarkable year for the African champions.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the 10-player shortlist earlier today — and the Nigerian duo’s names stood proudly amongst Africa’s finest.

Leading by example, Ajibade guided the Super Falcons to another glorious WAFCON title, dazzling fans with her skill, pace, and passion.

She scooped the Player of the Tournament award and several “Woman of the Match” honors — a true leader both on and off the pitch.

“Every time I wear the green and white, I play for every young girl who dreams big,” Ajibade said earlier this year — and she’s doing exactly that.

While Ajibade commanded headlines, Okoronkwo quietly became Nigeria’s creative spark — bagging 2 goals and 4 assists during the tournament, including a standout performance in the final.

Her vision and flair made her one of CAF’s most dangerous attackers this year.

Ajibade and Okoronkwo will battle for the crown against stars like Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria), Thembi Kgatlana (South Africa), and Tabitha Chawinga (Malawi).

With three Nigerians on the shortlist, the Super Falcons have once again proven their dominance in African women’s football.

The CAF Awards ceremony will hold later this year — and Nigerian fans will be watching closely as history could be made yet again.

From Lagos to Abuja, the chant is loud and clear: Naija no dey carry last!
