Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has once again spoken out — this time against what he calls the “rascality and recklessness” in Nigeria’s sports administration.
In a recent statement, Obi expressed disappointment over Nigeria’s poor outing at the Paris 2024 Olympics, despite millions spent on preparation and logistics. He lamented that athletes were left struggling under poor conditions, while sports officials reportedly enjoyed huge allowances with little accountability.
“It’s not about funding — it’s about how the funds are managed. We cannot keep rewarding inefficiency,” Obi said.
He further argued that corruption, insecurity, and regulatory uncertainty are major obstacles preventing Nigeria from attracting foreign investment in sports and tourism. According to him, the same governance issues crippling other sectors are deeply rooted in Nigerian sports.
Obi’s call has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians supporting his demand for greater transparency and merit-based management in the sports sector.
