Controversial Lagos socialite and nightlife personality, Mike Nwalie, better known as Pretty Mike, has been granted bail in the sum of ₦50 million following his arraignment by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over alleged drug-related offences.
The flamboyant club owner, known for his eccentric appearances at social events, was brought before a Federal High Court in Lagos alongside his nightclub, Proxy Lagos, located on Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island.
According to reports, Pretty Mike was slammed with a three-count charge involving conspiracy, possession of controlled substances, and allowing his premises to be used for drug activities. NDLEA officials claimed that 200 grams of cannabis sativa and 177 cylinders of nitrous oxide (commonly known as laughing gas) weighing over 364 kilograms were recovered from his club.
Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa of the Federal High Court in Lagos ruled that the defendants be granted ₦50 million bail each, with two sureties of equal amount who must present an affidavit of means.
The court also ordered that the accused remain in the custody of their legal counsel until the bail conditions are fulfilled. The case has been adjourned until January 14, 2026 for further hearing.
Legal experts say the hefty bail amount and strict surety requirements highlight the gravity of the charges while maintaining the principle of presumption of innocence.
News of Pretty Mike’s bail has set social media abuzz, with fans and critics alike sharing mixed reactions. Some users argue that the NDLEA is targeting celebrity figures to “make examples,” while others insist that nightlife operators must be held accountable for illegal substances found in their establishments.
Pretty Mike, who is no stranger to controversy, has yet to make an official statement. However, his close associates have hinted that he plans to “clear his name and focus on business as usual.”
The NDLEA has in recent months intensified its campaign against the use and distribution of illicit drugs in nightlife venues across Nigeria. Officials have hinted that Proxy Lagos could face forfeiture proceedings if found guilty of being used for illegal activities.
As the case continues, the flamboyant socialite’s fate and that of his thriving nightlife empire hangs in the balance.
