Drama in Anambra Schools! Head Teacher Suspended for Allowing Political Rally on School Premises

In a move that has stirred up conversation across social media and the education sector, the Anambra State Government has suspended a head teacher for permitting a political rally to take place inside a primary school compound.

The incident happened at Community Primary School, Umunze, in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state — and it’s been the talk of the town ever since!

According to the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the suspension was immediate and indefinite after investigations revealed that the school head allowed a full-scale political gathering during school hours.

The Commissioner explained that the Education Ministry had earlier issued a strict circular dated August 14, warning all school administrators against allowing political, religious, or social events on school premises during official hours.

Despite the directive, videos surfaced online showing party supporters chanting, waving banners, and holding a mini-rally in the school compound — right in front of classrooms where pupils were meant to be learning.

That was all it took to spark outrage. Parents, teachers, and concerned citizens demanded answers on why a political event was allowed in a government school filled with children.

The Education Commissioner didn’t hold back. In her words:

“Schools are not political grounds. They are centres of learning and must remain neutral to any form of partisan activity.”

She emphasized that the safety and focus of schoolchildren must come first, adding that the teacher’s action directly violated government policy.

Following the suspension, the ministry also vowed to sanction the organizers of the rally who entered the school premises without permission. Reports say the local government chairman even intervened to stop another rally from taking place in a nearby school the same day.

Social media didn’t take long to light up.
On X (Twitter) and Facebook, users expressed mixed feelings:

Some applauded the government for taking swift action, calling it a “bold move against politicizing education.”

Others argued the punishment was too harsh, claiming the head teacher may have been unaware of the gathering or pressured by local politicians.

A viral comment on X read:

This is what happens when politicians see every open space as a campaign ground. Schools are not stages for politics — protect the kids!

The suspended head teacher will face a disciplinary panel, and the state’s Education Ministry has promised to tighten monitoring across all schools.

Organizers of the rally could also face legal sanctions for violating public order.

Meanwhile, education stakeholders are calling for calm — and urging politicians to respect school boundaries.
