Chelsea has suffered a major setback as star midfielder Cole Palmer is set to miss up to six weeks with a recurring groin injury, head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed on Friday.
Palmer, who has been one of Chelsea’s standout performers this season, reportedly aggravated the injury during the 2–1 loss to Manchester United.
Though he attempted to play through the pain, further scans revealed the need for extended rest and recovery.
“It’s unfortunate, but we don’t want to risk him long-term,” Maresca said. “He will undergo a conservative treatment plan — no surgery is required.
The 23-year-old is now expected to miss several key fixtures, including Premier League and Champions League matches, as Chelsea navigate a crucial stretch of the season.
Despite the setback, Maresca expressed confidence in his squad’s depth, urging others to step up in Palmer’s absence.
Palmer’s return is tentatively targeted for late November, depending on how well he responds to rehabilitation.
