“If you’re coming to EXCO without this Asiwaju cap, you’re going back!” Okpebholo said to newly sworn in commissioners and special advisers


“If you’re wearing a traditional dress and you come to the EXCO meetings without this Asiwaju cap, you’re going back!” Monday Okpebholo said to cabinet members

This directive was given during Okpebholo’s speech at the inauguration of new commisioners and members of various state commissions on Tuesday the 14th of October, 2025.

Okpebholo out rightly mentioned that President Tinubu’s support was crucial in his victory in the November 2024 elections.

As a result, wearing the “Asiwaju cap” at EXCO meetings is a show of his support and a symbolic demonstration of loyalty to the Tinubu administration.

He also warned that any commissioner who attends the meetings on a traditional regalia without the Asiwaju cap would be sent back or denied entry.
The Governor did not fail to remind the appointees that their positions are not rewards or “political spoils”
Instead, a call to serve with integrity and he hammered on a zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
This directive by the governor has however sparked different discussions on social media.
While some see this as a symbolic show of party unity, others view it as unnecessary political display
