Tinubu Summons Former Rivers State Administrator to Aso Villa
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has invited the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), to the Presidential Villa, according to News360 Nigeria.
Ibas, who stepped into the Villa around 5:50 p.m. dressed in a brown traditional outfit, was accompanied by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, alongside the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.
Earlier in the day, Edun had briefly visited the Villa but returned shortly after, carrying a file that signaled the weight of the meeting ahead.
Vice Admiral Ibas had overseen Rivers State for six months under an emergency administration. His tenure ended on September 17, after President Tinubu ordered the reinstatement of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly.
Following their return, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, announced plans to scrutinize the state’s finances during the emergency rule. Lawmakers resolved to probe how funds from the consolidated revenue were utilized, particularly on contract awards and other expenditures.
Ibas, however, dismissed the Assembly’s move to audit his administration’s spending.
Reports indicate that Rivers State received no less than ₦254.37 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) between March and August 2025 while under Ibas’ leadership.
