Trump Concludes Japan Visit, Moves Forward U.S.–Japan Alliance

                                                             Trump- Takaichi meet in Tokyo

Tokyo, Oct 28, 2025 — Former President Donald Trump today wrapped up his visit to Japan, a critical leg of his ongoing Asia tour, leaving behind new agreements and bolstered diplomatic ties.

In a highly symbolic meeting, Trump and Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi declared a new “golden age” for the U.S.–Japan alliance, pledging deeper strategic cooperation in the face of global uncertainty.

A major agreement was sealed to strengthen the supply chain of rare earth minerals and critical resources, an area of fierce competition given China’s dominance in the sector.

Takaichi announced plans to accelerate Japan’s defense spending to reach 2 % of GDP “ahead of schedule,” in a move closely aligned with U.S. security expectations.

In a diplomatic flourish, she also proposed nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, while presenting symbolic gifts rooted in her predecessor Shinzo Abe’s legacy—underscoring her intent to maintain continuity in Japan’s foreign policy.

Trump’s Japan visit is just one chapter in his multi-stop Asia tour. His next stops: South Korea, where a summit with China’s President Xi Jinping is expected. Observers see this as the hinge point—what comes out of the Trump-Xi meeting could reshape trade dynamics and security alignments in the Indo-Pacific.

Among the topics on the table: trade tensions, rare earth access, security cooperation and the broader U.S. strategy toward China.
