US Wants To Return To Afghanistan, Trump Says – Foreign Affairs

Trump Hints at U.S. Return to Afghan Base Over China Concerns

President Donald Trump on Thursday suggested that the U.S. may seek to reestablish a presence at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, four years after America’s withdrawal left the facility in Taliban hands.

Speaking at a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his state visit to the U.K., Trump linked the idea to countering China, calling Bagram strategically important.

“We’re trying to get it back,” he said, in response to a question on ending Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
